Have you ever been back to Vietnam John?

Andy, no, I’ve not returned to Vietnam. However, I do have some friends from Vietnam and also veterans that continue to visit. The pictures they show is nothing like I remember…

Hi John, I’ve been a few times and visited Da Nang and Na Trang, spent some time on China Beach and tried to imagine how it would have been in your time. It is very different now with resort spas etc.
Each time I land at Saigon, Cam Rahn or Da Nang, I think of what it must have been like arriving during the war.
The country has changed a lot and is modernising quickly. I find it fascinating and it’s people enchanting.
I read your novel on a recent trip there and could not put it down.
I can’t imagine what it must have been like to experienced such horrors at any age let alone as a teenager. It must have been tough. These days returning soldiers receive counselling and PTSD is a recognised illness. Makes you wonder how many of the suicides would have been prevented over the years.
